Grandma Rose DropOut

Go ahead without me.
That post title came to me from that song lyric 'beauty school dropout'. Have you ever just 'dropped out of sight' or simply lose the oompf (is that a real word)? to do something? Bet you have.

My husband just got up asking me what I was doing to which I replied, "I'm blogging to explain why I'm not blogging". I'm so funny:)

I have decided to drop:

  • Tuesday Television
  • Thursdays Are For Trivia
  • Frugal Friday
Monday Memories will be still going only it won't always be just on Mondays. My whole blog will be open to whatever pops up and I will be back on more regular basics eventually, for usually, these mood swings don't last too long.

Anyways, my trip to Florida is coming up. I'm looking forward to seeing our newest member of our family and everyone else.

So, peoples of my blogging world, I apologize for dropping clean out of sight, I don't even go on Facebook like I used to but my thoughts of my family will motivate to go see what's new with the family.

Peace and kindness from me to you...Grandma Rose

Tuesday Television #22

I watch so many different shows sometimes it's hard to come up with just one show. I lean towards the supernatural, horror and disaster movies and television shows so I will watch something different along the comedy genre.

This is what I consider an oddball show finding myself laughing at the antics of the characters who somehow manage to get under your skin. It's a story about a man who thinks he's the last man on earth, but, he's not.

Monday Memories #19

My life was getting straightened out, I still had no idea where my so called husband was and didn't care, life was good...until I met a man who had been hit over the head, the girls brought him to me to fix him up...

A couple of days later the girls next store came knocking at my door. I was a few years older than they were, they treated me like a big sister. My mother had my daughter over the weekend already.

Looking frantic they told me there was a man that had knocked at their door, his head was cut and bleeding could I help? Of course, I could so I went over to see what was wrong.

He was a pretty good looking guy but his head was cut pretty good so I got my peroxide dabbing at it until it stopped bleeding. He claimed he had been attacked by a couple of strangers, I had no choice but to believe him.

That was the year I was introduced to crystal meth. He would come over to visit, one day leaving a vial of white powder on my kitchen counter where I cleaned up all around it, I didn't even know what it was.

I would watch him snort a line or two when he was over on the weekends I was by myself and one day I got curious and tried it. That's what they do men like that, "here try this", get you liking it until your helping to buy it also.

The biggest seller was the fact I wasn't hungry so not eating I was losing weight. The difference between us was, he wanted it constantly and I could take it or leave it. It was like I had two lives, one as a crystal snorting party girl on the weekends and a normal mother during the week.

That year I learned a lot about the undercurrent of my hometown. The people who did the drug, the people who did the drug and wanted to quit, the dealers, they all were normal everyday people who worked or dealt not working, all with one thing in common...crystal meth.

I now weighed 101lbs. thinking I looked great but this guy was like a slimy booger you couldn't shake off. He was of the type once he had you he used intimidation, manipulating me to doing what he wanted. He would always be sorry after finding some excuse why he had been such a bastard, I'd forgive him until one day I had enough.

I went to my mother explaining what had happened, why I had lost so much weight, how I couldn't get this asshole out of my life, she leaped into action calling a shelter in the next town, bringing me there. I was free at last... so I thought...

Continued on next Monday...

Thursdays Are For Trivia

Welcome to Thursdays Are For Trivia. I enjoy learning little bits of information and like all things I like sharing it with you. Please enjoy today's question.

RMS Carpathia was a Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship and became famous for rescuing the survivors of rival White Star Line's RMS Titanic after it struck an iceberg and sank with a loss of 1,512 lives on April 15, 1912. Carpathia braved dangerous ice fields and diverted all steam power to her engines in her attempt to aid the ship, but sadly arrived two hours after Titanic had sunk; nevertheless, she was able to rescue 705 survivors from the ship's lifeboats. Carpathia herself met her fate in the Atlantic on July 17, 1918 during the First World War after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-55 off the Irish coast. Five of her crew lost their lives in the sinking.

Thanks for reading:)

Monday Memories #17

Welcome to Monday Memories where I share my exciting life, at least to me, with you to hopefully help those out there to try not to make the same mistakes I made...

I was home again loving the feel of the hot, dry, desert air for I was safe again. My transfer to Bob's Big Boy was successful, my parents found myself and Amy an apartment. I had a bicycle to ride back and forth to work, my mother took Amy for me a lot which eventually became my downfall not blaming my mother in any way.

I was in love with my first apartment alone. I biked back and forth to work, my mother lived close enough, about a five-minute drive, pick up Amy bring her home when I got home. She also took Amy on the week-ends.

My new apartment was a 1-bedroom with a tiny kitchen but that was fine with me. My tiny kitchen had a window that looked out to my front grassy enclosed yard which I loved to sit out and sunbathe. I would take an icy tall beer out with me turning a nice golden brown color.

I had a small dining room space, a living room, bedroom which was where the bathroom was. I had set up Amy's crib in my bedroom which was big enough for my bed as well. I forget where I got it but had a huge cable table as a dining room table with a couple of chairs to sit on. Even way back then I loved making something out of junk.

I had made friends with my neighbors one's next store were two young women who pretty much were free spirits as I was, the other neighbor being a Spanish woman living alone up in the front near the street.

I remember going out one day on the invite from my young friends to Desert Hots Springs, Calif. to the streams that came from the snow melting off the mountain. I put Amy in my lap while I floated in a huge black inner tube, we were there all day and of course when we went home later on Amy passed out cold and I landed in my giant bean bag chair falling fast asleep.

The cute hitchhiker the girls had picked up came over the next day asking me to show him the way out of town which taking Amy in her stroller I walked him to the bus stop. All was well in our little world.

Work was great and I actually waited on Kristy McNichol who as I remember had a double fudge ice cream sundae which I thought was the coolest thing in the world. This is her today.

My life was getting straightened out, I still had no idea where my so called husband was and didn't care, life was good...until I met a man who had been hit over the head, the girls brought him to me to fix him up...

To be continued next Monday...

Frugal Friday #9 (Held Over To Saturday)

Hello everyone that matters which you get my vote of your reading this post! Yesterday I went out nice and early, 10ish, to get some wall trim wallpaper to put on my homemade banana box bookshelf I had put together to hold our books.

It's not completely done but I took pictures anyway. I plan on glueing magazine pages in a collage type of look for the inside of the boxes. Here is what I have done so far.

Plain Look

With wallpaper wide screen

With wallpaper long screen.
There is a store I may of mentioned before called The Rusty Bucket where stuff is made out of other stuff a little pricey but a great place to get ideas from.

I hope this gives you some ideas.

                                                           Macy's
Isidor Straus co-owned Macy's department store with his brother, Nathan Straus. He died with his wife, Ida, in the sinking of the RMS Titanic. They were seen standing near Lifeboat No. 8 in the company of their maid, Ellen Bird. While the officer in charge of the lifeboat was willing to allow them a spot, Isidor Straus refused to go so long as there were women and children still remaining on the ship. His wife refused to go because he refused to go. Ida is reported to have said, "I will not be separated from my husband. As we have lived, so will we die, together." And they both went down with the Titanic.

My Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades!

What a great area to live. Our bank is close, our grocery store is close, both being the same as we had in St. Johnsbury. We are going to lunch today in the dining room that's in our building. Roast beef and the trimmings. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, they have free dinners which we are looking forward to as well.

I took some pictures of the progress we have made plus a view of the town. I simply adore small intimate towns. Beauty is everywhere.

Finally got my lids sorted!

From H.O.P.E. thrift store. $3.00 sandals brand new Dr. Scholls!

Chuck sitting at our borrowed table and chairs in our 'computer room.'

Looking forward to sorting out these boxes. Some of them have been packed for five years making my stuff seem new again.

Taken from my bank a view of Lyndonville.

My homemade bookshelves. I'm going to get something pretty to cover the boxes.

My bathroom is slowly becoming organized.

Showing no more boxes and if there is a place to hang stuff on I will find it.

Have a wonderful day wherever you are in this world:)

Monday Memories #15

...continued from last Monday #14

We, my husband and I decided to move back to San Deigo ending up in Chula Vista moving into a huge complex that was filled with Navy personnel. My husband was supposed to be looking for a job ending up working at the harbor again.

I stayed home with Amy becoming great friends with a man named Tom who lived right across the stairway. I would put Amy down to sleep leaving both doors open so I could visit and still hear her. Bill was in the Navy getting hurt by steam hitting his leg and was waiting for his settlement.

My husband seemed to have trouble getting a job and after a week or two of this, I decided I was going to go out to look for work. I started down the Main Avenue going in and out of each store until I went into Bob's Big Boy, applied being hired on the spot as a Hostess.

I was overjoyed for I have always enjoyed working especially with people taking to the job seating guests as tables emptied. I had a sitter for baby Amy who was around nine months old, who knows what my husband was doing.

Then one day he didn't come home. No big deal I had Tom to keep me company. The day stretched into two weeks with my paycheck keeping all the bills paid. I didn't eat during the day saving what little I had extra after bills to feed Amy so the cooks would bring me 'mistakes', meals that were made wrong you could eat them. I knew they were doing it on purpose.

One day I was working, one of the waitresses told me I had a visitor. As I went up to the lobby it was my old Captain that I had worked for the summer before. He had tracked me down to let me know that my husband was found playing captain and had been caught. I just stood there a little shocked. I thanked him and when I got home I called my parents.

I talked to my manager who let me transfer to the Bob's Big Boy back home waiting for my parents to come get me and Amy, we were going home...

I will continue my story next Monday Memories...

Monday Memories # 14 (My Marriage By Rebound)

Thank-you all so kindly for welcoming me back, also being patient and understanding. I'm realizing that before I moved I was getting myself frazzled by fretting too much on all the wrong subjects. It's like I always do, try and cram all the knowledge into my brain until it explodes! Now I'm a lot calmer and plan on just getting my posts out there, whatever happens, will just have to happen at its own pace.

I was now six days overdue from my due date. My mother took matters into her own hands taking me for a very bumpy ride in our Volkswagon which I laughed the whole time.

Later on, after she dropped me off at home I felt that first cramp go searing through my body. My water didn't break instead my mucus plug came out,(sorry to gross you out) so I called my mom telling her it was 'that time.' When my mother arrived I had taken a shower and she was like, "You could have had that baby in the shower" which I replied but I didn't and off we sped to the hospital.

It was important to me to have my baby natural, no drugs. Eighteen hours later I was exhausted, my husband couldn't take the pain I was in and had left the birthing room, I had dilated to a four and stayed there. You're supposed to dilate to  a ten. The last thing I heard was my doctor saying she needs a C-section.

I was woken by my nurse telling me I had a baby girl to which I replied, "No I didn't" I was so groggy until my brand new baby girl was laid on my chest. My love for this tiny being totally consumed me as I gazed into her little face. I was a mother.

Little did I know I would only have four years with her.

I'm going to end with that for my heart hurts a lot at the moment. I will pick up the story next Monday. Until then stay safe where ever you are.

Thursdays Are For Trivia #FixThePlus

Answer: Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi and was far from the world-famous star he was destined to become later. After graduating high school, Elvis took a truck driving job at Crown Electric working for only $40 per week. Knowing he wanted to become a singer, Elvis continued to pursue his career throughout years of rejection. At one point, Presley was even told to stick to driving a truck “because you’re never going to make it as a singer.” On July 18th, 1953, Truck driver Elvis Presley made his first ever recording when he paid $3.98 at the Memphis recording service, singing two songs, "My Happiness" and "That’s When Your Heartaches Begin." Presley would go on to become one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century.

How To Pack With Fibromyalgia #FixThePlus

How to pack with Fibromyalgia. First off I am going to post about this baffling disease. At least to me it is.

  • Very common
  • More than 3 million US cases per year
  • Can't be cured, but treatment may help
  • Requires a medical diagnosis
  • Lab tests or imaging rarely required
  • Chronic: can last for years or be lifelong
  • Fibromyalgia is often accompanied by fatigue and altered sleep, memory, and mood.
  • Widespread muscle pain and tenderness are the most common symptoms.
  • Medications, talk therapy, and stress reduction may help control symptoms.
First off don't be afraid to ask for help which at first I had a horrible time asking for I am very independent and would rather do it myself. In asking for help I ended up with around 20 boxes to use in packing. Call your local Human Services to see what they offer.

Now you got your boxes. Now with Fibromyalgia you get your good days, your bad days and days that you can't even get out of bed. Don't pack on that day. Take advantage of your good days packing a few boxes at a time. Stop if you start to feel any pain at all...SIT DOWN and rest.

I have had plenty of notice with this move and now I'm working with about 2 weeks until move in time. We are getting the family to help which will be great, one of the things I love about my married family is even if it's not your favorite thing to do, you do it.

I have so far emptied the closet, most of the bathroom stuff, some of the kitchen stuff piling the packed boxes next to the front door for easy moving access. The only big items we have to move is our bed and a few shelves thank goodness.

This coming Friday we are going to view our newly renovated 2 bedroom apt and I'm very excited to see our new home in a new town. No more hills to climb, stores are all within walking distance, I can't wait!

So remember, nothing is impossible, there is lots of help out there take advantage of it and happy trails to you until we meet again.

What's your best way to move?

Frugal Friday #7 #FixThePlus #FollowFriday

Planted seeds in egg cartoon holder.

Seedlings

Last Frugal Friday I talked about growing yourself indoor herbs and left off saying we will explore making indoor starter kits and save a ton of money. When I grew my own back in Maine I planted seeds in empty egg shell cartons. What I think is so neat about the paper cartons is the biodegradable part of it. You can plant the whole little container holding your sprouts either out in your garden or inside in your planter. May is a good time to start planting.

My little sprouts.

Containers

This is what I like best for you can use your imagination. Like for instance, you could plant your seedlings in a discarded coffee pot. I just would put small stones or pebbles at the bottom of the pot or you can use fish gravel that has seen better days. Then you will have drainage and fertilizer.

I love clay pots.

So take one of your seedlings in your egg container, it will be quite moist by the time you are ready to plant. Fill with gravel about 1 inch tall, then the soil, then the seedling and there you have it. Put what ever you are growing in a nice sunny spot.

While I'm thinking about it I love what some people have done with old tires. The ones I've seen is they were painted, buried halfway with flowers in the middle. Looked pretty neat.

Nice sunny spot.

I hope I have given you a few ideas to play with. Gardening can be so much fun:)

What have you planted so far?

Thursdays Are For Trivia #FixThePlus

Welcome to Thursdays Are For Trivia. I enjoy learning little bits of information and like all things I like sharing it with you. Please enjoy today's question.

When Ronald Reagan ran for Governor of California in 1966, he began eating Jelly Beans as part of his attempt to give up pipe smoking. The Herman Goelitz Candy Company would send monthly shipments of Jelly Beans to the Governor’s Office throughout Reagan’s two terms in Sacramento. Three and a half tons of red, white, and blue Jelly Belly jelly beans were shipped to Washington, DC for the 1981 Inaugural festivities. The company provided the Reagan White House with Jelly Belly jelly beans for all eight years of Reagan’s presidency. In February 1981, the company received official Government authorization to develop a Jelly Belly jelly bean jar with the Presidential Seal on it. These Presidential jars of Jelly Belly beans, each in its own blue gift box, were given by Reagan to heads of state, diplomats, and other White House guests.

Tuesday Television #14 #FixThePlus

2 Broke Girls

Kat Dennings and Beth B
Normally I don't watch shows like the one above but in this case, I give the story a thumbs up to 2 women from completely different backgrounds can be paired up as friends with a dream to own their own business. You can watch it here at Couch Tuner TV Videos.

The characters are very funny and work together well. If you would like to take a look at them click here.
Reminder: Tuesday Television is not a review but a suggestion to watch a really great show that maybe you have missed.
