Thursdays Are For Trivia

Today is Thursdays Are For Trivia. I love learning little tidbits of information hoping you will enjoy the question and answer as well.

"To be, or not to be" is the famous opening phrase of a soliloquy in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. In the soliloquy, Hamlet questions the meaning of life, and whether or not it is worthwhile to stay alive when life contains so many hardships. In the speech, Hamlet contemplates death and suicide while waiting for Ophelia, the love of his life. He bemoans the pain and unfairness of life but acknowledges the alternative might be still worse. "To be, or not to be" is one of the most widely known and quoted lines in modern English.

Thursdays Are For Trivia

Welcome to Thursdays Are For Trivia. I enjoy learning little bits of information and like all things I like sharing it with you. Please enjoy today's question.

RMS Carpathia was a Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship and became famous for rescuing the survivors of rival White Star Line's RMS Titanic after it struck an iceberg and sank with a loss of 1,512 lives on April 15, 1912. Carpathia braved dangerous ice fields and diverted all steam power to her engines in her attempt to aid the ship, but sadly arrived two hours after Titanic had sunk; nevertheless, she was able to rescue 705 survivors from the ship's lifeboats. Carpathia herself met her fate in the Atlantic on July 17, 1918 during the First World War after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-55 off the Irish coast. Five of her crew lost their lives in the sinking.

Thanks for reading:)

                                                           Macy's
Isidor Straus co-owned Macy's department store with his brother, Nathan Straus. He died with his wife, Ida, in the sinking of the RMS Titanic. They were seen standing near Lifeboat No. 8 in the company of their maid, Ellen Bird. While the officer in charge of the lifeboat was willing to allow them a spot, Isidor Straus refused to go so long as there were women and children still remaining on the ship. His wife refused to go because he refused to go. Ida is reported to have said, "I will not be separated from my husband. As we have lived, so will we die, together." And they both went down with the Titanic.

A Book
Amazon began as an online bookstore, selling books out of Jeff Bezos’ garage. After reading a report about the future of the Internet that projected annual Web commerce growth at 2,300%, Jeff Bezos created a list of 20 products that could be marketed online. Bezos finally decided that his new business would sell books online, due to the large world-wide demand for literature, the low price points for books, along with the huge number of titles available in print. In July 1995, Amazon.com opened its virtual doors, calling itself "Earth's Biggest Book Store," with more than 1 million titles to choose from. The first book sold on Amazon was a book titled "Fluid Concepts & Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought."

Thursdays Are For Trivia #FixThePlus

Answer: Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi and was far from the world-famous star he was destined to become later. After graduating high school, Elvis took a truck driving job at Crown Electric working for only $40 per week. Knowing he wanted to become a singer, Elvis continued to pursue his career throughout years of rejection. At one point, Presley was even told to stick to driving a truck “because you’re never going to make it as a singer.” On July 18th, 1953, Truck driver Elvis Presley made his first ever recording when he paid $3.98 at the Memphis recording service, singing two songs, "My Happiness" and "That’s When Your Heartaches Begin." Presley would go on to become one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century.

Thursdays Are For Trivia #FixThePlus

How the fire exactly began is still unknown, but Mrs. O'Leary's cow often gets the credit. The most popular and enduring legend maintains that the fire began in the O'Leary barn, as Mrs. O’Leary was milking her cow. The cow kicked over a lantern, setting fire to the barn. This story was circulating in Chicago even before the flames had died out, and it was noted in the Chicago Tribune's first post-fire issue. In 1893 the reporter retracted the "cow-and-lantern" story, but even his confession was unable to put the legend to rest. At least 300 people were dead, and 100,000 people were homeless. The fire was one of the most spectacular events of the nineteenth century, and it is recognized as a major milestone in the city's history.

Did you know that?

Thursdays Are For Trivia

Hello, everyone, I love trivia coming up with the idea to post a trivia Question with the Answer making Thursdays Are For Trivia. I will see how it does to keep it going or not. I generate my meme's through Recite.com.

So now I have on a regular shedule Monday's Are For Movies Online Entertainment where I watch a lot of movies & T.V. shows I have plenty to share in that category. I also post where you can watch for free which I will gladly share with you.

Thinking Back Tuesdays I am telling the story of my life, the lessons I may or may not have learned. I want to help or show we are not all alone in this journey called life. My story is inspired by my first-born Grandson and a brother is on the way.
