Thinking Back Tuesdays Story #6 FixThePlus

Continued from last Tuesday...Before you get the wrong idea let me explain...

My earliest memory’s I have is when I was very young, I'd say two or three years old. It was night and no seat belt laws back then so I was standing next to my mother in the front seat while she was yelling at my father to get in the car and me crying out “daddy” which then he got in the car.

I remember laying in the back seat at night and watching the street lights whiz by which later on figured out mom was out getting dad from the whatever bar he was at. He later stopped going.

There was non-stop screaming and yelling; doors slamming and windows rattling. It took me forever to not be a 'yeller' learning how to talk things out without violence or screaming.

Being grounded was like a death sentence to me so I became very skilled at hiding the fact that this butterfly was coming out of her cocoon no matter what my poor mother did to smother it. I think because she had gotten pregnant with me, I would have a 'surprise' as she recalled my birth.

Junior High...images are flashing by for I had some very good times despite the fact I was still a loner belonging to no group of kids but trying to fit in. Nothing like I am now that’s for sure!

Having to wear (yes my mother kept on buying my clothing) what she picked out was horribly embarrassing. We would go to Sears and/or J.C. Pennys armed with mother's credit card. For some reason, my father came along and it's he that I went to with my 'clothing issues'.

I would make my argument over whatever I was being forced to wear, he would issue his verdict. I would win. It usually was about wearing outdated stuff which made going to Jr. High I knew you had to change in front of other girls in Physical Education.  No way was I going to wear cotton brief panties with little flowers on them! We settled on cotton crouch solid print bikinis.

I am part Irish, Dutch and Cherokee Indian. In the winters I was bone white while sunbathing in the California sunshine I would turn a nice bronze color. I wanted to shave. I had very hairy legs which of course made me feel very self-conscious so I sneaked into my parent's master bathroom borrowing my father's very sharp razor which I had been warned never to touch.

I brought the razor into my bathroom excited, I was going to have beautifully smooth shaved legs. I sure could have used Google back then for at least I knew to lather up my legs first. I start at the top of my foot and draw the razor along the top of my leg to my knee.

You ever cut yourself with a very sharp razor? If you have then you know at first you don't feel anything at all but you know there's something wrong. Next is this awful stinging sensation with blood flowing out of five or six little chunks of shin skin up the length of my poor leg.

I managed to finish shaving only much more carefully around the little holes in my leg. I got better at shaving after learning the hard way which was mostly the only way I learned about life. I wore pants for a week. Now I know where the phrase growing up can painfull come from. Junior High wasn't all about embarrassments, I did have two escapes, my love of art and music...

To be continued next Tuesday...What did you like to do in Jr. High?

Thinking Back Tuesdays

Two more days 'till Saint Patrick's Day. That's the only time I tolerate bright green but I love the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Takes me back to those horrible, wonderful childhood memories of wearing something green or you were in danger of being pinched. Which I did not like unless it was the cute boy I currently had a crush on. And the gold coin candies, those were good.

This story I have told over and over again as my kids were growing up for as in all places and times there will be bullies. Or mean kids. Those kids learned to steer clear of my sweet self.

Now this tall boy was celebrating St. Paddy's Day all week at my Jr. High School. He was, at least, six feet tall. I would see him walking down the hall what looked like he was pinching someone, mostly the girls, they would jump and yelp so I thought nothing of it. Turns out he was sticking people with a safety pin. And guess who he stuck...you got it...me.

Now being stuck with a safety pin poses a problem, mainly lots of pain that don't go away too soon. He would also play leap-frog over the girls heads and finally I had enough of this jerk.

My mother was into all kinds of crafts. Needlepoint, Sewing, Latch Hook, are you getting the picture now? In the early school hours, I would get dressed and eat breakfast alone which was fine with me. This particular morning my mother's darning bag was right next to her chair where she had left it the night before.

It was Saint Patrick's Day with the pot of gold being two darning needles. With a half grin and gleaming eyes, I reached in and brought out a huge darning needle.  I put it in my purse and off to school I went.

Sure enough, when I arrived at school getting off the bus I spotted the tall boy. The bell rang and first class began. Class time seemed to slow down finally with the bell ringing. As students poured out into the school's hallway I saw Mr. Bully leapfrogging and sticking the girls, why no one turned him in I have no idea but I was the same liking to handle things myself.

As he got closer he spotted me. I could tell what was on his mind as he drew closer I whipped out my mother's huge darning needle telling him go ahead and try jerk. The kids around me starting laughing as he backed away muttering I don't want any trouble man. I was the hero for the morning, he never stuck anyone again.

Bullies come in all shapes and forms. I was lucky that day this one backed off. I don't know why for I was such an angel but that day he saw my horns.

Were you ever bullied as a child?

Tidal Waves In A Dream Is Ok.

I have mentioned in an earlier post that I'm a dreamer. In full color, I know I'm dreaming in my dream, I'm pretty sure I teleport...dreamer.

I came across a picture on the internet where everywhere you go someone mentions that we are overdue for a huge earthquake. Scary times. Are we safe in Vermont?
What about my family? I was born and raised in California. Will this be recorded on Google Earth? Before and after? What about Florida? I have family there as well and a new grandson on the way! Run and hide everyone!!

You could really freak yourself out about all this or...take a deep breath and tell yourself it's gonna be okay. Not much anyone can do about it aside from moving to Mars and talk about boring.

Maybe go under the ocean. Big tsunami can't get you there or can it...hmmmm. I keep getting this picture of people running around yelling THE BIG ONES COMING but we will do nothing about it as they wring their hands and take another shot of whiskey lol So I say, hang on to your floats and pray.

This is where my dream comes in:
I'm in a rustic type ranch house apartment building on the 2nd floor. Running along the front is a enclosed porch. Looking out I can see other buildings off the Main Street and where the ocean was behind everything.

As I'm looking over I watch as this gigantic tsunami is going by and it turns towards the apartment where I'm at. I think oh great and watch thinking how big and beautiful it looks and we're all gonna die, then I'm under water and I can breath. I think I turned into a Mermaid. I've always wanted to be a Mermaid.

Then I wake up.

What's your most re memorial dream?
