Frugal Friday#4 #FixThePlus #FollowFridays

Hurray, it's another Friday for all you work'in folks, goodbye work-week, hello weekend! When I got my first factory job I was thrilled that you got the weekends off, although when Monday rolled around that's how my head felt, like it was rolling around.

Along with Friday comes my Frugal Friday which I talk about the earth's pressing environmental problems trying to help out with a few ideas to try and help this place we call Earth. Can you image if every piece of trash on land and water was placed in a big pile how big that would be? Huge.

Today's topic is cigarette butts. You know how it is. You go for a walk somehow not seeing the litter that is practically all around you because you are desensitized from seeing it all the time. Now I have been a former smoker going back and forth with that annoying habit so I'm not here to preach.

Yesterday I paid special attention to noticing the ground and honestly it's gross. Everywhere you look there are cigarette butts on the ground, gathered around buildings, stubbed out in the planters I saw, floating in a couple of buckets of water, you get what I'm saying? And let's not forget the big piles of butts from cars in parking lots lining the shrubbery.

Yes, I have been guilty of all that and one day I woke the hell up stubbing out my cigarette putting into my pocket, plastic bag or trash can that was near. When at home I started filling the leftover metal cans from coffee and the way I drink coffee which by the way I'm slowing down on my caffeine intake, fill up the can and even being a smoker opening that coffee lid stunk to high hell. Pee-yew!

As far as the waterways go, like the street drainage where all the rainwater flows through to our rivers and drinking water? I have to imagine nicotine all through the water ~Ew~ I don't know if that's true but our drinking water sucks and that could be the reason why!

So if you smoke and butt it, don't throw it on the ground or in the water or practice your flicking abilities, throw it away after it has firmly been put out and the wildlife will thank you as well.

What do you think?

Frugal Friday #3 #FixThePlus #FollowFridays

Why 'waste' burns me up. I can't stand it sometimes. Another pet peeve of mine is wasting and/or throwing away perfectly good food. I realize restaurants, markets, and food chains all have to follow United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety, and Inspection Service or be fined but honestly, given a little imagination, 'expired food stuff' can be given away to help the needy which is everywhere. I don't know how many people, old friends, acquaintances that have two or even three part-time jobs to stay afloat and pay the bills. What good is "The Land Of The Free" saying is if you are starving to death and have nowhere to lay your head but a park bench.

I remember when I was working nights at the deli when I found out you poured out all the unused coffee at closing time I was horrified. Between being an avid coffee drinker and my extreme dislike for waste I could not believe my eyes. After closing my eyes as I poured all that coffee down the drain which made my co-worker laugh, I started bringing an empty jug filling it with the leftover coffee making homemade ice coffee to my little hearts content.

And then there was throwing away bread heals ~gasp~. I would talk about what harm would it do to toss the bread outside for the birds, or how much money it could save making recipes with leftover heals. I would make grilled cheese sandwiches with the heels. It didn't hurt me I love toasted bread heels. Silly but do you get where I'm going with this?

When I was living in Maine I was at our local market that had nice fresh meat. I was in a poor state of affairs so when I went in I asked the store owner if he had any expired product that he was going to throw away could I have it explaining my circumstances. He filled my basket that I dragged around when shopping and I took it all. I told him where I lived were little kids I would share this with. I also talked about how cool it would be to give this expired stuff to the needy. Lo, and behold he set up a day when you came in was boxes of expired products. Those kids I mentioned loved all the stuff I gave them and are teenagers today.

So when I came across an article from Huffington Post's Chefs Stock Up On Unused Produce To Make Soap For Those In Need, I dropped everything else I was doing and with great interest and delight read the post. Evidently a woman chef name of Suzy DeYoung, of Cincinnati hates waste as much as I do decide to do something about it.

"Suzy DeYoung, of Cincinnati, is taking produce that would otherwise be thrown out, and turns it into nutritious soups for customers, nonprofits and food-insecure families with her organization, La Soupe".

What a wonderful idea I think this should be done everywhere. I'm sick and tired of uneducated people thinking that anyone who needs this kind of help is 'lazy' or wants the situation they are in. During the time I have been on this earth I have gone literally  from rags to riches several times in my life and can survive either although if it wasn't for an animal feed store that would give me the torn bags of kitty or dog food they otherwise would have thrown out, the two homeless shelters I have lived in, the food shelf and the food kitchens, I would have been in quite a pickle.

Read the post if you are interested, I'm already in love with this lady and what she does.

I absolutely despise waste.

How do you feel about this issue?

Trivia For Mother's Day

If you would like to see the answer read further...

In his Mother's Day proclamation, Wilson called “upon the government officials to display the United States flag on all government buildings, and the people of the United States to display the flag at their homes or other suitable places on the second Sunday in May as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.”

Have a wonderful day.

American Horror Story #FixThePlus

I am now officially caught up with American Horror Story. It's a perfect example of my personality to start something..then stop..wait...where did I leave off? Crap, gotta start over again which I tried with the Walking Dead but decided to, after sitting through season 1 & 2...again, I jumped up to season 4. Good enough I say.

Freak Show was the best Season yet. I stand in awe of the actors and how they can play so many different characters so well you forget who they were before.

At different parts of the show, I'm screaming inside my head "kill him, kill the little shithead" and my nice girl voice asks me if that's very nice to which I reply "kill him, kill the little shithead" . It's fun being evil or as Mike Myers in I Married An Ax Murderer said...E-vil.

I like what the freaks did to this one guy...yes I have already forgotten his name only remembering he died as a fairy killing, evil vampire in True Blood...at the end...oh what do you care.

He was turned into this tiny all I can say is a thing with feathers with his own head and I'm still mad it was so blurry I couldn't truly see his suffering.

It made me wince to watch "Dandy" die by drowning, but I loved the way he was in a glass box so you could see everything. What spoiled it for me were the "tidy whities". ~Yuck~ The butt were even a little baggy.<<<gagging.

Catching up my horror shows and watching them up to date as a popcorn-munching, well I used to before dentures, okay so chip munching, horror/supernatural movie lover, I'm quite proud of myself

So I'm going to take a nap now then when I get up a nice night of zombie binge watching is on my agenda.

Vermont Is So Pretty

We just got back in. My husband and I went over to Mom, Dad, and Jack's They live in Marshfield up in the mountains.

We got there about 11:30 am and did the "family thing" hanging out, laughing and talking. Lunch was a hot dog and Lays Chips which evidently there was this chip contest earlier that I had never heard before. Macaroni & Cheese suggested flavor had won.

A little while later me and Dad were talking about the rain and other topics. He looks at me and asks if I wanted to see the waterfall he was telling me about. I said, "Sure"!

So we did a little "back road boogie" as he pointed out where he had used to live growing up and other points of interest.

Then we got to the waterfall. It had started to rain...a cold rain but it felt good. I hopped out of the vehicle and took some pictures. Can you say awesome?!

Have you ever seen a waterfall up close?
